Javier's journey with HNOMA began in 2019 when he had the privilege of leading the UHNOMAS chapter. Since then, he has remained deeply engaged, driven by a passion for supporting students and connecting communities. Throughout his involvement, he has focused on creating and supporting initiatives that uplift students and foster collaboration. Notable efforts include hosting UHNOMAS’ second student exhibition, volunteering for HNOMA’s Diversity Career Fair which he serves as the co-host, and contributing to AIA Houston’s Latinos in Architecture Collegiate Mentorship and Scholarship Program. His commitment to the organization and its mission has remained consistent and unwavering.

In addition to his work with NOMA, he has been a dedicated advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives since 2020, serving on two task forces for the University of Houston College of Architecture and Design. Currently, he is honored to serve as the Chair of the AIA Houston JE:DI Collection. As someone often described as “being everywhere,” he leads with the intention of bridging communities together. Over the past two years as Co-Chair of Planning and Programming, he has helped facilitate collaborations with local organizations, including successful happy hours with Latinos in Architecture, the chapter's inaugural Women of Color Brunch and first Pride Happy Hour with the LGBTQIA+ Alliance. Most recently he led a joint panel on the intersection of the two organizations at TxA.

With these experiences and a strong foundation of leadership and advocacy, he is eager to serve as Vice President of HNOMA and continue the legacy of this incredible organization. As HNOMA approaches its 20th anniversary, he is committed to growing our community, amplifying our voices, and furthering HNOMA’s mission to support excellence in architecture.
