The HNOMA Legacy Breakfast is the Houston NOMA Chapter's signature annual philanthropic fundraiser, created to honor the enduring legacy of minority architects whose vision, leadership, and contributions have shaped our profession, our communities, and our chapter.

Each year, we will celebrate a distinguished architect whose story inspires future generations. Our inaugural breakfast honors the extraordinary legacy of John S. Chase, FAIA, NOMA; Texas' first licensed African American architect, one of the co-founding members of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), and a visionary whose influence continues to inspire architecture, education, and the City of Houston.

More than a celebration, this event is an investment in the future. Proceeds directly support HNOMA scholarships, leadership development, and initiatives that empower the next generation of architects and designers while preserving the stories of those who paved the way.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support HNOMA scholarships, licensure assistance, leadership development, mentorship, and programs that empower the next generation of architects and designers while preserving the legacy of those who paved the way.

Fireside Conversation

At the heart of this year’s program will be an intimate Fireside Conversation featuring Tony and Saundria Chase, who will share personal reflections, stories, and perspectives on their father’s life and enduring legacy. The conversation will be moderated by Houston architect Daimian Hines, FAIA, bringing together the personal and professional dimensions of Mr. Chase’s story. Guests will have a unique opportunity to hear about the man behind the architecture—from those who knew him best.

The Legacy Collection

The morning will feature the inaugural HNOMA Legacy Collection, a curated exhibition exploring John S. Chase’s influence across architecture, history, community, mentorship, and generations of designers.

Contributors Daimian Hines, Vergel Gay, Ben McMillan, Terry Smith, Laura Carrera, and the Houston Public Library, in partnership with the African American History Research Center, will share works, stories, and historical materials that reflect connections to Mr. Chase’s life, work, and enduring impact.

Together with the Fireside Conversation, the Collection invites guests to experience Mr. Chase’s legacy through the people, places, and stories that continue to carry his influence forward.
