HNOMA Committees
Below you will see descriptions for each of the HNOMA Committees. These committees are run by volunteer members who are responsible for everything we love about HNOMA. Let us know what committees you are interested in being a part of by completing the form below.
Join A Committee
Budget/ Finance Committee
This committee is responsible in part for developing fundraising initiatives in partnership with the Sponsorship Committee.
Bylaws and Policy Committee
The Bylaws and Policy Committee shall be responsible for drafting and maintaining current policy documents, and drafting changes to the By-Laws and Constitution as directed by the Board of Directors.
Planning Committee
The Planning Committee shall be responsible for the development of future projects and activity of HNOMA. The Committee shall screen proposed projects, undertake long-range planning, establish, and recommend priorities, and develop initiatives on long range issues perceived to have potential impact on the profession and organizational goals.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee shall be responsible for the development and implementation of programs to sustain and increase the membership of HNOMA.
Annual Diversity Career Fair Committee
The Diversity Career Fair has been hosted by HNOMA since 2006. The goal of the career fair is to connect students from the four (4) professional architecture programs in and around the city of Houston with architecture and planning firms that are actively seeking to promote diversity in the profession. The fair went virtual in 2021 and it was better than ever. The virtual platform allowed for greater participation from firms throughout the state of Texas and students joined us from universities all over the country.
HISD CTE PArtnership Committee
This is a technical education program that has many partnering opportunities for the HNOMA & Friends Network. Our collaborative points of contact are building a relationship professionals can have an opportunity to inspire students with project presentations, mentoring, career development tips, etc. whether virtual or in-person. There are opportunities to present projects and topics on career development.
HNOMA Black Women in Architecture Networking Committee
The national delivery that you attended last year led us to prioritize a local delivery. This will be the inaugural year to deliver this informal gathering to take place two to four times a year where women in the profession and in related areas of all backgrounds can network, share/discuss concerns, and build mentoring relationships.
Professional Development Committee
This committee is responsible for the ARE Study group, coordinating and submitting CEU content in cooperation with the Planning & Programming Committee leaders, developing and prioritizing programs that support the related needs of the membership.
Project Pipeline Committee
Project Pipeline is a NOMA initiative that serves 25-30 students locally. Local professionals and university students serve as leads to steer activity groups on assigned tasks. The curriculum/guide for this program is established by NOMA.
Sponsorship Committee
The Sponsorship Committee is responsible for developing and defining opportunities and relationships in coordination with the Budget Finance Committee and Planning & Programming Committees
Symposium
The Symposium committee started in 2020 to position HNOMA as a facilitator of discussion panels made up industry leaders, community leaders, and regulation authorities on housing. The initiative is to build a table where thoughts, concerns, and resources can be exchanged as a measure of stewardship to the community and building bridges to wealth, health / wellness through the lens of the built environment. This year's installment will be Part 2 of our Workshop that will lead to the development of a published resource with the help of our partners.
End of the Year Meeting / Social
This event is the last general body meeting of the year when the Year in Review is delivered, membership awards are presented, next year programming is presented, and partners are recognized. This is also an opportunity to network and build ongoing relationships within our diverse network.
Architecture Barbie Camp
This is a NOMA program initiative that is delivered locally. HNOMA would like to reactivate this program and in honor of a late female architect and NOMA member with a lifetime of dedicated service to empowering fellow women in the profession, Lola Lisa King.
